ABOUT

Biography

Jenny Larsson works as a choreographer, dancer, and filmmaker in the USA and Sweden and has been running the art collective Wild Beast Collective since 2016. Since then, WBC has produced dance works for the stage, site-specific pieces, Fågelbo Residency (a national and international artist residency for two or more artists), short films, documentaries, and a film festival. Jenny’s artistic work hovers on the boundary between different forms of expression, where film, dance, theater, music, visual art, and design collaborate to create different forms of storytelling. It often involves exploring and reshaping structures and unwritten rules around contemporary dance, as well as an interest in depicting a realistic and human perspective of the dancing body.
Jenny is driven by a democratic and human societal perspective, where everyone (regardless of socioeconomic or cultural background) must actively participate in the development of dance, both on stage and in public spaces. During my studies, I delved into postmodern dance in New York and San Francisco during the 1960s and 70s, a period that emphasized inclusion and experimental expression. These ideas have shaped my view of dance as an accessible art form where all bodies have the right to express themselves. I also want to engage in discussions about the role of dance in society and how we can make it more accessible to more people, both on stage and in public spaces.
Jenny was educated at the current Stockholm University of the Arts, in dance and dance pedagogy between 2000-2004, as well as at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in the MFA in Performing Arts-Dance program between 2011-2013.
Since returning to Sweden in 2019, I have worked on a range of projects, from dance performances and film productions to community dance initiatives.

Through community dance projects in Sweden and the U.S., Jenny has highlighted participants’ own stories. In her latest dance work, I Wanna Talk about Dance, which is developed during 2025, she aims to create connections through dance and break socio-economic and geographical barriers. Her ambition is to spread dance and give more people the opportunity to experience its expression.
